Forty-two
Itās my birthday today. Iām turning forty-two years old. Thatās a lot for some, and nothing for others.
To me, age isnāt really a thing, as such. Itās just a number, and it grows by one each year. My body doesnāt seem to mind these occasions either, the flesh suffers at a much slower scale, but suffer it does. Iām not twenty-five anymore, as they say, and as the numbers clearly state.
This is where I wish Iād had a list of things Iāve accomplished this past year, a yearly round-up of how things are going, but I havenāt. Itās like those new yearās lists that I enjoy when written by clever people, that, I wish I had that. But no, it seems I live my life in a current, upstream or downstream, but a steady current (with some sharp bends, at times). Itās not a flight of stairs for me, thus my mind canāt truly grasp the idea to recap. Maybe itās because Iām awful with time, not keeping it, or arriving on time, but rather, telling how long it was something happened. I canāt even tell how long Iāve been living with my girlfriend, not within a six-month span, possibly not even twelve.
(Donāt worry, she knows this. Thus, sheās always right when we disagree on when something happened. Donāt tell her I said that.)
Timeās tricky, age is not, to me. Iāve got a friend whoās really shaken up, almost depressed, when he turned forty. Not in that ironic, or comical, kind of way, but in the I have to buy a motorbike right now, otherwise Iām old kind of way. Heās a normal kind of guy, itās beyond me why forty is a thing. Itās just a number.
Celebrations are calm, today, because the little one is sick, which didnāt do wonders to last nightās sleep, and weāve got a ton of work to do. We splurged last weekend, though, in more ways than one, that was fun.
So, yeah, forty-two. Have at it.
